What do you do if you or a loved one recently had a stroke? What are the rehabilitation programmes available to help you or your loved ones get up on their feet again?

Stroke can be caused by either haemorrhage or thrombosis. Haemorrhage occurs when an artery bursts and bleeds into brain tissue, whereby thrombosis occurs when a clot is formed and blocks the blood supply to brain tissue. The occurrence of either will cause part of the brain to be deprived of oxygen.

If thrombosis is the main cause of the stroke, acupuncture treatment should take place as soon as possible. On the hand, if haemorrhage is the main cause, acupuncture treatment should only be carried out when bleeding ceases.

What to expect on the first visit

Depending on the severity of the stroke, a patient can be accompanied to the clinic or request for a house call visit

Our physician will ask a series of questions to get a detailed understanding of your medical history. This is followed by examination of the tongue and pulse for the physician to arrive at his/her diagnosis of the patient’s body type. With this in mind and with reference to the medical history, the physician will then be able to advice on which treatment programme to embark on.
